Happy Number Three, Paige.
We threw Paige her 3rd birthday party on Sunday. As per her request, it was princess-themed. That meant Nana and Aunt Sheri came down the night before to help Paige's mommy make the castle-shaped cake. It was simple boxed cake layered with Nana's homemade buttercream icing.
As for the party itself. It was rained out. We always preferred to throw Paige's birthday party in our backyard. Being May, we used to throw the first outdoor party of the season. This year, the weather inspired Megan to improvise. She with he help of Nana, Aunt Sheri and Dave made a castle of cardboard and painted it white. Then all of Paige's friends donned smocks and socks and painted the castle. Fortune struck Paige's party the boxes came free from the moving company we were going to use and the paints came free from Paige's school.
Paige also had a special guest at her party. Miss Jackie came to sing songs and read stories. (For those of you who don't know, Miss Jackie is a Dover staple. She's everywhere kids gather. Primarily, she's a music teacher at Paige's school and sings/ reads Story Time every Friday at the Dover Public Library.) She was a hit with the kids, especially when she handed out percussion instruments for all of them to play along.
The party looked like it was going to be a hit. However, in the middle of opening gifts, Paige decided she needed to lie down on the couch... with a blanket covering her. The next thing we knew parents began thanking us and filing out with their kids. Nothing like a simulated nap to kill a party's momentum.
There was a mild second peak though. Paige's cousin's stuck around to play and a late visit from Meme and Pepe created a little excitement. At the end, when asked what her favorite part of the day was she said it was when Miss Jackie and everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to her.
